Qld: Pair completes pedal across Pacific
A British adventurer and his American school teacher companion have completed a perilous
pedal boat journey across the Pacific Ocean.
JASON LEWIS and his partner APRIL ABRIL stepped off their fragile eight-metre vessel
Moksha in north Queensland today, conceding the Barrier Reef had provided some of the
scariest moments of their hazardous voyage.
The trans-Pacific voyage from the United States to Australia is part of LEWIS' human-powered
global circumnavigation.
He started at London's Greenwich Meridian in July, 1994, and has so far travelled around
32,000 kilometres.
Strong winds and rough seas ensured sea sickness and salt sores for the pair during
the past week.
LEWIS says the couple has only had one serious argument during the lonely 32 days at
seas together, arguing about the fact that ABRIL wouldn't eat properly.
LEWIS estimates it will take up to five years to circumnavigate the world.
