NSW: Scully says rail report shows govt on right track

NSW Transport Minister CARL SCULLY says a report into rail safety has shown the CARRgovernment is on the right track investing in guards and security cameras.

The NSW Auditor-General's report into CityRail passenger safety has found the overallnumber of serious or violent crimes on trains fell by 43 per cent over the past five years, but rose by 28 per cent on platforms.

However, the report also shows a fall in serious and violent crimes on trains and platformssince the introduction of security guards and 5,700 closed circuit television cameras.

Mr SCULLY says the reduction in serious crime is directly attributable to the introductionof guards and the camera system.
