PROPOSAL WOULD ENTANGLE WORKS OF MERCY IN RED TAPE.(PERSPECTIVE)

Byline: FRED BOEHRER As a Christian, I oppose President Bush's proposal to increase federal funding to religious groups in their effort to help poor people. -

Many civil libertarians have criticized the proposal because, in their opinion, it breaches the separation of church and state, and promotes religion in our secular society. I oppose it for the opposite reason: Bush's proposal promotes the secularization of religious expression, by having faith-based organizations subdue core beliefs in order to receive federal funding.

The following story illustrates my concerns:
