NSW; Over 500 people dob in petrol profiteers
SYDNEY, Aug 16 AAP - The New South Wales state government's petrol hotline continued to
attract a flood of callers on its first day of operation, with 519 people ringing about petrol
price rip-offs by 5.30pm (AEST).
A spokesman for Fair Trading Minister John Watkins said most of the calls had come from
motorists on the south coast, from Nowra to Eden.
Due to the number of calls, the hotline is open until 9pm today - two hours later than
planned - and then will run from 7am to 7pm until August 22.
It enables consumers to report possible illegal and uncompetitive NSW petrol prices.
The complaints are to be forwarded to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission
for possible action under the Trade Practices Act.
The hotline number is 1800 802 055.
Online complaints can be addressed to petrol@fairtrading.nsw.gov.au.
